The Flower Girls
- Janita Preshaw -
Over twenty years ago I stumbled into a gorgeous old weatherboard cottage where a busy little flower shop buzzed within. I was looking for work and had decided I liked the idea of becoming a florist. I never would have imagined then that twenty years down the track I would be the happiest little florist in town standing behind my very own counter in my very own flower shop!
Over the past two decades I have been privileged to work with some very talented florists and I will be forever grateful for all the skills I've been taught and all the lessons I have learned. Thanks to all of you.
Surprisingly though, the person I have to thank the most was an apprentice I worked with a couple of years ago who is now one of my dearest friends. Her love and complete awe in the beauty of flowers and the art of floristry is what rekindled my passion and inspired me to go ahead with my dream and open my own flower shop.
Now here I am and it's time to get down to some serious flower business!
My flower philosophy is 'fresh is best, seasonal is sensible'. I stock the best quality flowers that I can source and, where possible, I prefer to source from local growers.
Flower care is high on my list of priorities. A few basic steps is all it takes to get the most life out of your blooms and ensure you get the best value for your money.
My favourite aspect of floristry is customer service. I love discussing with each customer the reason behind their purchase and the details of where the flowers will end up. I feel it is important to do this in order to provide a personal touch to my work. The next step is gathering the flowers and foliage to create a unique arrangement styled to suit each occasion and that is why I love my job!

Lissy is my beautiful apprentice. Although she has only been officially working at Beautiful since the beginning of February 2016, she has been a committed and budding florist since her introduction to the flower world in 2014 when she came into my shop for her year 11 school work experience. It became apparent to both Lissy and I almost immediately that she had a talent and hidden passion for floristry.
While continuing her school education, Lissy religiously came into my shop for two hours on a weekly basis so she could watch and learn as much as possible and her determination and love for this beautiful art form is being reflected in her amazing knowledge and skill already. On top of all that, Lissy is an excellent communicator and her customer service skills are a huge asset to my business. Can't wait to see this young lady blossom! |
